Witchford Village College first Gruntvig Blog!

Witchford College first Grundtvig Blog! Hello everybody!Juliet, Andrea and I were pleased to meet all our new partners and are looking forward to creating new ideas, sharing information and resarching into Minorities. We will be exploring information about Gypsies, Romanies and Travellers (GRT) in the UK and specifically in the Cambridgeshire area.

During our Presentation, we spoke of the work at Witchford as an Adult Learning Centre, but we did not mention that its main function is a Secondary School for 11- 16 year old students. We have about 850 students, who arrive by bus each day, from all the surrounding rural villages. We have about 25/30 GRT students in school and work hard to ensure they are supported and achieving well.

I hope this Blog is a useful space to add extra information and to share achievements - hopefully this will be visible!! Best wishes from a foggy England. Maureen

Spanish Team

Hi everybody!

Just a couple of words to let you know that the Spanish group is working hard. Next Tuesday we will have a meeting where we will discuss some of the topics we are dealing with, gathering information about Galician Minority. As soon as we reach any conclusion, I will publish a brief note explaining them.

Have fun,
Elena

CoMin Meeting of the german group

We had our second CoMin meeting on Friday , 14th of November.
Once again we talked about the two expressions “minorities” and “Culture”. We tried to find a common definition to work with and had a long discussion about it.
After this the students presented their materials which they have found in the last two weeks. Concerning the minority of the sorbs a lot of literature, articles and videos exist.
One student reported on her telephone call with the cultural office of Bautzen (town in Lusatia). They sent her a lot of material about the sorbs.
Finally we divided the material into four groups :
1. Geography, living space, history of the sorbs
2. Tradition: folklorism, art, famous Sorbian persons
3. Today’s situation: economic situation, political situation
4. What is Sorbian identity? What do the sorbians themselves would like to tell the majority society?
Each student chose a theme which he/she wants to work about.
Concerning the form of the exhibition we decided to write short texts and to use much figures, schedules and maps.
Because we want to meet Sorbian people and ask them personally what they think about their present situation especially concerning the expansion of the quarries of lignite in their living space we are planning an excursion.

Kickoff meeting in Germany; 06.-09.Nov.2008

From 06.11.-09.11.2008 there was the kickoff meeting for our project in Stuttgart /Germany. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. It was learning to know each other and to see how the issues about our exhibitions will look like and how all partners see about that. So it was a really great pleasure to have our guests from malta, poland, spain and the UK here in Stuttgart. We really looking forward to our next meeting and to all of your contributions to this blog. (this was written by Marius)
